ROM\0\14.DAT Corrupted, Game keeps freezing.

If anyone has had this problem and resolved it, or has any suggestion on how to stop it, I would greatly appreciate it. I didn't start having this problem until the April patch. When the game does freeze, it's always when I'm using Dia on DRG for Healing Breath. Every time this has happened, I have run a file check. ROM\0\14.DAT keeps getting corrupted, and I keep fixing it over and over, but it still happens. I use Windower and FFXi UI Mod. Downloading the Mod's latest version didn't fix the problem either. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Actually, I just ran the file check after yet another game freeze. This time ROM\119\51.DAT and 57.DAT are corrupted. Is there something that could just be randomly messing up my files?

start > run > type "cmd"

type chkdsk c: /r

restart your pc

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I can't recall which livejournal I got it from. However, I went in and changed all of the DATs back to the FFXI defaults so I'd hopefully isolate the problem. I updated windower, since I've been running 3.4 forever. I even downloaded Aikar's recent patch that came with the update. Since finishing these steps I haven't been in the game long enough to see if I'll still crash.

Now I'm actually getting a new problem lol. The game loads fine. I can get to my character and play like normal. But, when I go to logout or shutdown, I get the "Playonline Viewer has stopped working" instead of returning to the POL viewer. I don't know if this is something I should be concerned with, since I could care less if POL stops working when I shutdown. I'll try the solutions you guys have provided now. Sorry for the length, and thanks again.

the "Playonline Viewer has stopped working" msg is from the new windower, everyone is getting it. hopefully that will be fixed in the next windower release.

Only way to prevent that (I think) is to unload the draw distance plugin before you logout of the game. Frankly it's so minor an inconvenience that I'll just let it crash every time.

K, ran the check disk. Hopefully everything's peachy now. I guess if everyone's having the POL crash problem there's not much I can do lol. I will try unloading drawdistance though, thanks for the advice. Thanks again everyone.

Download Emiko's stuff. You were likely using Brandon's, which doesn't work anymore.

Secondly, it isn't DrawDistance that's causing the shutdown error, but Distance (and potentially EXPWatch). You can unload those two plug-ins, then shutdown, and as a result, you probably won't crash. If you do crash however, it isn't anything to be worried about.

Awesome, thanks! I guess I was using the set that doesn't work anymore. All of the DATs that have been getting corrupted have been those that are switched out with the UI mod. You guys are great. :D
